Google Glass gets update to Android 4.4 KitKat




Google Glass is in an upcoming software update includes a customized version of Android 4.4. That also means that there are several new features become available, such as Bluetooth 4.0, better performance and longer battery life.

The news was announced by Google employees on a forum where only registered developers with Glass glasses to access, so writes Android Police. Google made the statements after delay occurred with a promised update for Glass. Instead of applying the monthly update schedule is now working on an update that brings the smart glasses from Android 4.0.3 to Android 4.4.

Although Glass runs on a modified version of the Android operating system, the new Android version brings several improvements with it. Compared to Android 4.0.3, Google has several optimizations implemented allowing the software to run faster and less of the battery requires. There will also be support for Bluetooth 4.0 and provides developers with more APIs available to them.

It is still unclear when the update to Android 4.4 is available for Glass and precise improvements that this entails. After delaying the promised XE14 update Google has not announced when it expects the next release. With the cessation of the monthly update cycle Google hopes to get major changes to implement the Glass-software more time. In addition to the update to Android 4.4, Google would like to work on improving the app store Boutique and expanding the Glass Development Kit.
