Google makes Assistant bilingual

Google adds bilingualism to the Google Assitant. The personal assistant can speak and understand two languages if they are English, German, Spanish, French, Italian or Japanese. More languages will follow later.

Users can set two of the six languages listed and then speak alternately in those two languages, while also being able to receive answers in the same languages. Dutch is not yet supported with regard to bilingualism, but Google promises to extend the support ‘in the coming months’. The functionality does not come as a surprise: Google announced it in February, even though the company talked about ‘multilingualism’.

Google also announces that the Google Home Max is available in Germany, France and the United Kingdom. The company announced the speaker at the end of last year for the American market. When the Home Max is released in the Benelux is not known.

Google mainly competes with Amazon’s Alexa and wants to integrate its Assistant on as many devices as possible. During the IFA, Google announces that its Assistant will be part of the Bang & Olufsen Beosound 1 and 2, Blaupunkts PVA 100 and Harman Kardons HK Citation series. In addition, the assistant comes to new smart displays, such as the JBL Link View and the XBoom AI ThinQ WK9 from LG. Amazon Alexa is standard on Acer’s new laptops .
