Google: next major Android update coming later this year

The next major update for Android, provisionally known as Android M, will be released later this year. That says a top executive of Google. Meanwhile, Google has released Android 5.1, as minor update which currently only runs on Android One devices.

Google CEO Caesar Sangupta reports that the next major release of Android, he still refers to as Android M, to be released this year. Which will include the new version, he does not appoint. It is the first time that Google is talking about the successor to the current Lollipop , which first appeared in November.

Android 5.1, unlike M is a minor update, contains, according to the chief executive of Google, performance improvements and bug fixes and is the first of three new Android One devices in Indonesia, writes the Indonesian newspaper Kompas. These devices are all in the Netherlands known manufacturers.

What exactly has changed in Android 5.1, is unknown. Sangupta spoke only of performance improvements and bug fixes. Android 5.1 Google has not been to the Android Open Source Project pushed and there is not known when the updates for Nexus devices would follow. An earlier rumor reported that Android 5.1 would reduce the silent mode from previous Android versions. Also there should be a fix for the memory problem in 5.0.
