Google wants to replace the url in Chrome in the future with another way to show the identity of a website. The search giant is not yet sure how that should happen and it is unknown when Chrome stops showing standard urls.

Google wants to get rid of URLs, because many people would have trouble understanding them, so that malicious people can get started with manipulation of URLs, says Adrienne Porter Felt, Google’s Googles Chrome division, in an interview with Wired . Moreover, they would not be good at displaying the identity of a website.

That is why Google wants to replace the url with a different way of identifying websites, but the company does not yet know how that should be done. In any case, it should be clear to every user on which site they are located. Google is now looking at how people use urls and wants to come up with alternatives. It is also important to be able to easily share web pages with others.

Google has already tried to show only the domain so all the elements behind it, but that turned out not to be a success. The company came to a lot of criticism and Google got the function from the browser.
