Google Play Services 9.8

Google Play Services 9.8: Google Fit Goals API and phone numbers for Google Sign-In

artikel_androiddev Google Play Services is the part of Android that allows new features independent of system updates. Thus, users will also benefit from new features, which are not always supported by your smartphone manufacturer or not at all with Android updates. Version 9.8 of the Play Services has now been published, Google released the changelog at this point . The changes are primarily aimed at developers who have access to specific parts of the system and thus can integrate innovations into their apps, which ultimately also benefits the user.

The changes in the advertising and also the interface for Cast are rather uninteresting, developers can operate here “Feintuning”. It is more interesting with the Nearby interface, which is only once deactivated. The reason for this is a bug that indicates Beacons nearby, although you are already out of range. Interesting for users, too: via Google Sign-In, phone numbers, if included in the Google account, can be inserted into apps by logging into a service or registering.

Also new is the Goals API in Google Fit, which allows other apps to read out the goals you’ve set up in Google Fit. This is, however, limited to reading, so you can not set targets through another app. Will probably be used primarily by various fitness and tracking apps. Any changes to the Play Services 9.8 you can in Google Developers read, probably more interesting when you are actually developing.
