Google releases api to automate tasks in Docs

Google has released the so-called Google Docs API, which allows developers to automate a variety of tasks that are still manually entered into Docs files.

Google reports that the api makes it possible to automatically create new documents, retrieve the contents of a specific document or periodically update them in a specific document. The api also supports the option of inserting, deleting, merging text into a document, or adjusting the text properties. Furthermore, the api makes it possible to transform a paragraph into a point list.

The Google Docs API has been available as a preview since last year and is now out for all developers. For example, companies can use this to automatically generate the same monthly invoiced invoice, based on a template. Among others, Netflix has already made use of the api, in the form of an internal tool to support its technicians in collecting data.
