Google starts with YouTube Kids in the Netherlands and Belgium

Google has introduced YouTube Kids in the Netherlands and Belgium. The version of YouTube gives parents the possibility to let children watch only approved channels and limit the screen time.

YouTube Kids is available in 59 markets through the addition of the Netherlands and Belgium . It is a free service that shows advertising. The advertisements have been assessed for suitability for children. Those who do not want ads must purchase a YouTube Premium subscription.

The child-friendly version of YouTube offers a different interface to the regular version, with larger thumbnails and a subdivision of channels in the categories Shows, Music, Learning and Discover. Parents have various management options. This allows them to disable search and set up to show only approved videos and channels, while allowing others to blacklist.

In addition, there is the possibility to set timers so that children can not look any longer than parents want. YouTube Kids is available on smartphones and tablets with iOS 7 or higher or Android 4.1 or higher. In addition, the variant can be viewed on TVs via a Chromecast, Apple TV, game consoles, smart TV platform or Android TV.

With the Kids version, Google tries to respond to criticism of the regular version of YouTube, where children of a normal cartoons can get to strange and shocking images with a few clicks.
