Google works with Rockchip of modular smartphone
Google has announced that it has partnered with Rockchip for the development of an application processor for modular smartphone Project Macaw can be used. The first model with OMAP 4460-soc has since been delayed.
In a post on the social network Google+, the company had to know that it has signed with the Chinese producer of cheap SOCs Rockchip a partnership. The latter will develop a chip that is compatible with Project Ara. A prototype of Project Macaw with Rockchip is expected in early 2015 and is probably the third version of the modular smartphone that is shown to the world. There are currently no specifications published.
Meanwhile, a manufacturing error to delay the first version of Project Ara provided. Initially had the first developer versions of the modular smartphone to be delivered in late July but by bringing the manufacturing wrong coating it may take two weeks before the first models leave the factory.
Google is still working on the design of a second version of Project Ara. The company promises the new hardware still will display during a developer conference this year.
