Groupon waives use brand Gnome




After strong criticism Groupon has decided to withdraw its application for the trademark Gnome and not to use the name for products. The GNOME Foundation, creator of the eponymous Linux desktop environment, all collected money for a lawsuit.

Groupon logo Previously said Groupon though the company would find a solution and that node has been severed , the discount site announced. “We have decided to withdraw the trademark applications for ‘Gnome’,” the company said. “We will find a new name for our product.”

Tuesday seemed the collision between Groupon and the GNOME Foundation will still result in a lawsuit. Groupon wanted to use the GNOME brand name for an electronic payment and even filed trademark applications for the GNOME name, to the fury of the GNOME Foundation. Which uses the Gnome-name for years for its Linux desktop environment.
