A hacker claims in the possession of millions credentials of Twitter accounts and sells them for ten bitcoin, currently converted about 5100 euros. After analysis by LeakedSource shows that it comes to 32.8 million accounts.

Twitter ZDNet report a hacker with links to recent LinkedIn-, MySpace and Tumblr hacks’ and known as’ Tessa88 ‘in a chat claimed the Twitter data have held since 2015. The site LeakedSource analyzed the database and concludes that the data do not come from a data breach at Twitter, but users are obtained through malware. This malware credentials would have stolen directly from the browser, where they were stored unencrypted according to the site.

The hacker claims 379 million account information in their hands, but Leaked Source says that without doubles comes to 32.8 million unique accounts. Twitter claims to have around 310 million active users each month. The data it comes to e-mail addresses and unencrypted passwords. These are verified by LeakedSource at fifteen different users. ZDNet has also checked some passwords.

Security researcher Troy Hunt remains skeptical and claims that there is no reason to believe that this information is real, only recently because several large sites data breaches were found to have. A spokesman for Twitter refers in a message to ZDNet the recent hacks and stresses that it is important that users use unique passwords.
