Hackers use Dropbox to distribute malware

According to Rich Barger, Chief Intelligence Officer for Cyber Squared, many hackers use the online storage Dropbox for their activities. The Chinese gang DNSCalc, which at the time was involved in the attack on the New York Times should have their tools distributed via Dropbox.

Besides even dropbox WordPress came to spread the malicious software used? Why?

Because many companies consider shared links to files on these services as legitimate. A fatal mistake of course and also a likely sign of poorly secured computers on a local level. The hackers have packed a crafted PDF file using ZIP and this document so named, you’d think it was from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Association of South East Asian Nations – ASEAN).

Opens this document, a computer now, then it connects to the WordPress blog on which the attacker then other malicious software is reloaded. Rich Barger reported that Dropbox is used in many businesses and is therefore not locked, similar to what happens with queries on WordPress blogs.

In the attack on the New York Times, the access by the hacker had remained undetected for four months.
