Find a Question:
Happy birthday, Internet
There is something in our life that haunts us every day. Fifty-odd years ago, this was not, but today it is an integral part of our lives. When we sleep, eat, go, go, read, listen, watch – more than half of the cases we deal with a spider’s web. The name of the Web – the Internet. August 7, 1991 CERN doomed humanity to a second life, presenting the World Wide Web world.
The history of the Internet is very interesting and convoluted as the story of the emergence of fire. Prometheus is not the twentieth century has brought it to the people, not the October 29, 1969 at 21:00 between the first two nodes of the network ARPANET, located at a distance of 640 km – the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) – held the first session. Charley Kline attempted to perform a remote connection from Los Angeles to a computer at Stanford. For the first time managed to send all three characters «LOG», after which the network has ceased to function. LOG should have been the word LOGIN (login command). In working condition system has returned to the 22:30 and the next attempt was successful. This date can be regarded as the birthday of the Internet.
It is possible, but not so simple.
In 1990, the predecessor of the Internet – the network ARPANET – ceased to exist, completely losing the competition NSFNet. In the same year it was recorded the first connection to the Internet via a telephone line. It was only in 1991, the World Wide Web became widely available on the Internet, and in 1993 came the famous web browser NCSA Mosaic. The World Wide Web is gaining popularity.
“We can assume that there are two clearly distinct era in the history of the Web: [to the browser Mosaic] Marc Andreessen and after. The combination of Web services protocol from Tim Berners-Lee, who provided the communication, and the browser (Mosaic) from Marc Andreessen, who provided the perfect functional user interface, created the conditions for the observed explosion (of interest in the Web). During the first 24 months that have elapsed after the Mosaic browser, Web passed the stage of complete uncertainty (outside counts the number of people within a small group of scientists and only one little-known activity profile) to complete and absolutely everywhere in the world of its prevalence », – A Brief History of Cyberspace, Mark Pesce, ZDNet, October 15, 1995.
Today – one of the memorable days, reminiscent of the turning points on the way to becoming our curse and a blessing. Depends on which way you look.
