Harebrained Schemes has been taken over by Paradox Interactive

developer of games like Shadowrun and Battletech, Harebrained Schemes, has been taken over by the Swedish game publisher Paradox Interactive. The acquisition involved an amount of 7.5 million dollars, approximately 6.4 million euros.

Mitch Gitelman and Jordan Weisman, two founders of Harebrained Schemes , say their company is still just an
… independent studio and that not much will change. Paradox confirms this and states that the management and creative teams of Harebrained Schemes are retained. Paradox pays a converted 6.4 million euros for the acquisition and a further percentage of the revenues from the past five years. Weisman said that the scale of the games made has increased and that his studio needed a company that brings financial stability and marketing experience.

Paradox and Harebrained Schemes already worked together at Battletech, the most recent title of the game developer. According to the Paradox CEO, it was a ‘fantastic collaboration’ and Harebrained Schemes is a world-class studio with a talented team that makes games within a genre in which Paradox also wants to participate. This mainly concerns tactical games with a strong story. Battletech is a turn-based strategy game in the Battletech universe, known from games such as MechWarrior, MechCommander and MechAssault. Paradox says that it plans to continue to support Battletech with new updates and content. Harebrained is already working on a new project.
