Want to build a robot with your hands soft? Harvard University and Trinity College Dublin are ready to help you in this matter. Educational institutions jointly released a set of tools for the production of flexible robots. The kit includes all the “smart” tools for both beginners and advanced collectors robots .

The site Softroboticstoolkit, which refers to the publication CNET, you will find useful information on any parts that can be used in their work. There is a manual, downloads, video tutorials and sample programs to control robotic systems.

The site also provides an opportunity to exchange tips, models, technical knowledge and experience that allows designers from all over the world to cooperate with each other.

We watched some huge benefits received by students to communicate with more experienced colleagues who can help them on the fly. However, this approach is difficult to scale. We have created an easily accessible set of tools that will allow students to gain experience – says co-author Donal Hollande, a graduate student at Trinity College.

Hollande colleague Gareth Bennett of the same institution believes that “open design can have the same impact on the development of technologies such as open source software in the past.”

Toolkit, which is demonstrated in the video below, is available at the following link: softroboticstoolkit.com .

Examples of soft robots can be seen here and here .

Recently, researchers from Harvard University with the help of 3D-printer printed plastic building blocks with a compound of the principle of Lego, which can be used to create the above-mentioned soft robots.
