On Thursday it was announced that a part of hobby site HCC victim of data theft. An estimated 300 members of HCC are affected. Tweakers, however, learned that the number of affected members around ten thousand lies.
In a statement on the HCC site, which is now offline, members were informed of the incident. Later this happened via email. HCC spokesman Bert Janssen late Tweakers know that only names and email addresses of users of the senior academy are captured. From a small group of content managers are also hashed passwords fallen into the hands of third parties.
Three hundred members had received an email from the hacker, HCC therefore assumes that this also includes the number of stolen names and email addresses. It is unclear what the content of this e-mail or the hack took place exactly in what way. Janssen confirmed that the hacker under the name of ‘mentor’ has contacted HCC.
Tweakers includes a claim from an anonymous source from which 300 members not only names and email addresses had been looted, but also passwords. In addition, there would be another ten thousand members whose names anyway and email addresses have been leaked, that is the claim. Janssen argues that this is not consistent with the findings of HCC and that it involves speculation.
