Heatpipes are commonplace in smartphones soon – Better cooling for CPU and modem

The Medias X06E is apparently not too much longer remain the only smartphone with an integrated heat pipe. Supposedly have several large smartphone manufacturers are interested in using the concept, which would allow them to build very powerful yet compact smartphone models where you do not have to worry about overheating more.
Heatpipes are commonplace in smartphones soon – Better cooling for CPU and modem

NEC had presented to the Medias X06E some time ago the world’s first smartphone with integrated heat pipe. The device is equipped with a 4.7-inch 720p display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, and is aimed primarily at female customers. Well supposedly take Apple , Samsung and HTC, the concept under scrutiny for their future smartphones to better cool with a heat pipe. The solutions used to date using graphite foil and are no longer sufficient to reports made by, to keep the high-end smartphones with their very fast ARM chips optimized for temperature. So there are always complaints, after which the devices in certain places are very warm and even reduce or shut off because the heat can not be derived under certain circumstances.

In the course of standardization of the integration of LTE modem there is an additional heat source, so that the cooling problems increase. Already, four different suppliers of heatpipes that the NEC Medias X06E are similar and are only 0.6 millimeters thick. However, the yield is still in production is only around 30 percent, so that production processes still offer plenty of scope for improvements to reduce Committee. Apparently heatpipes will still be commonplace soon found in smartphones. They ensure that the waste heat of the modems and processors distributed over the entire surface of the device and thus a stable operation is ensured.
