Hitachi ROPITS: first unmanned electric vehicle, designed for one person,

Japan is definitely making progress in advancing unmanned vehicles . Hitachi has shown an interesting single unmanned electric ROPITS (Robot for Personal Intelligent Transport System). According to Hitachi, it suffices to give ROPITS route via smartphone or tablet and it will take passengers to the right place.

Originally created for the electric car in order to make life easier for elderly people, but now Hitachi is considering implementing this design in other areas, for example, the delivery service of goods. For safe movement ROPITS uses map data and a set of different sensors.

To determine the location of the vehicle using GPS and laser range finder mounted on the roof. The obstacles in the way, the bumps and potholes in the road, as well as random pedestrians are defined by two cameras and three-dimensional laser range finder, which are installed in front of the electric car. Thanks to the “active suspension” (automatic height control wheels) Electric ROPITS highly resistant.

Maximum speed ROPITS is 6 km / h and it is designed to compete with “drones» Google and Nissan, about which we wrote here and here .
