Hitman developer IO Interactive opens second studio in Malmö

The Danish game developer IO Interactive, known from the Hitman series, opens a second studio in Malmö, Sweden. The location in Malmö is now in use. Exactly which projects will start there soon is still unknown.

Hakan Abrak, the IDE CEO, announces the opening of the new location via IOI’s website . According to Abrak, the studio will contribute, among other things, to the development of new content for the Hitman franchise. The CEO also talks about the possibilities of creating ‘new franchises’.

In recent years, IO Interactive has focused mainly on the Hitman series. On November 14, 2018 Hitman 2 was released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows. Tweakers has written a review about Hitman 2 and given the game an 8.5. The latest game from the developer that had nothing to do with the Hitman franchise was Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days from 2010.

Until May 2017 IOI was part of Square Enix. After losing 39.4 million euros in the fiscal year that ended on 31 March 2017, the game publisher felt compelled to sell IO Interactive . A month later IOI announced that it went on as an independent studio after a management buy-out .
