HMD will upgrade all its Nokia smartphones to Android P so far

The Finnish HMD Global has promised that it will upgrade all its Nokia smartphones to Android P so far, if Google’s new mobile operating system is out. This involves the models with Android One and smartphones from last year.

HMD does not say when the upgrade is about to come, says Android Authority . For the new models, HMD is obliged to release the upgrade because it came out with Android Oreo and the Android One program requires manufacturers to at least make a major upgrade. Last year’s equipment came out with Nougat and therefore already had an upgrade to Oreo.

This involves the Nokia 2, 3, 5, 6 and 8 of last year and the 1, 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, 6.1, 7 Plus and 8 Sirocco of this year. The latest models will be released this summer and will probably run on Oreo when released.

When the upgrades will take place, it is not yet known. Last year HMD started upgrading for its devices in the autumn. Other manufacturers have not yet announced their plans for upgrades to Android P. Obviously , the phones in the beta program for Android P will get the upgrade in any case. However, that is not a given: the Sony Xperia Z3 was in the beta nougat program, but never got an upgrade.
