Find a Question:
How long can the Earth sustain life?
Life on Earth will exist for at least 1.75 billion years old, unless, of course, does not happen to a nuclear apocalypse or a planet does not meet with the errant asteroid , scientists have calculated. But even if you pluck all sorts of doomsday scenarios, the cosmic forces still make the planet uninhabitable.
According to new research, approximately between 1.75 and 3.25 billion years the Earth will enter the habitable zone of the solar system into a “hot zone”.
One of the conditions habitable area is water in liquid form. It depends on the distance at which the planet is removed from its star. For example, the closer the earth is to the sun (included in the “hot zone”), the faster it evaporates the oceans and the planet becomes unsuitable for complex life forms, including humans.
Scientists have always paid more attention to the search for life on other planets than the prediction of the end of life on Earth.
The evolution of complex forms of life on earth is more than one thousand years. The simplest single-celled organisms appeared on Earth about 4 billion years ago. 400 million years ago, there were insects, after 100 million on Earth set foot dinosaur, then graced the world of flowering plants, said researcher Andrew Rushby from the University of East Anglia, adding that anatomically modern humans appeared on Earth long ago – about 200,000 years ago. As you can see, the development of intelligent life requires a lot of time.
Rushby and his colleagues developed a new tool to assess the amount of time required for the natural process of evolution of life on other planets. In other words, the researcher proposed a model to calculate the residence time of the planet in the habitable zone. In a study published in a recent issue of the journal Astrobiology, researchers have applied this model to the Earth and eight other planets located in the habitable zone.
Scientists estimate the time limit of the Earth in the habitable zone – 7.79 billion years old. Since the formation of the Earth was 4.5 billion years old. The other planets also allocated from 1 to 54.72 billion years old.
If we ever have to change the planet, the Mars – the best choice. It is close and will remain in the habitable zone of damping to the Sun, there are 6 billion years – summed up Rushby.
Another group of researchers has discovered in space “factory” producing “building blocks of life” .
