How much energy consume new game console





American Society for the Protection of Natural Resources (NRDC) submitted its report on how much electricity consume recently put on sale gaming console Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Both consoles are much more efficiently manage power consumption compared to their predecessors, but the overall energy consumption figures still impressive.

Next-gen consoles consume about three times more energy than the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, due to the increased performance and additional features. Currently only one gaming console in the U.S. consume 10 to 11 billion kW • h per year. If we translate this energy into money – it turns out that U.S. consumers spend $ 1 billion a year for the electricity that spend their PlayStations.

The website includes NRDC published some interesting graphics. The first one shows how much energy is consumed both new consoles in different modes. At first glance, Xbox One spends far more energy efficient, as PS4 consumes considerably more watts during basic modes of operation, except for that “standby” when the console is in a state of sleep.

However, if more thoughtfully explore the issue of energy efficiency both consoles, it is clear that Xbox One for a year consumes significantly more electricity. And it happens only because while in standby mode, Microsoft console remains connected to the Internet, and Kinect sensor constantly listens to the surrounding sound. The total amount of energy consumed is well shown on the second chart provided by the NRDC.

At the conclusion of his report, NRDC experts appealed directly to the producers of consoles from Sony and Microsoft and asked them to sharpen their focus on improving the efficiency of spending power in their gaming devices.
