HP presents laptop of magnesium and leather

Manufacturer HP has presented the Specter Folio, a laptop with a magnesium and aluminum casing, with a layer of leather. Thanks to the way the screen can be folded down, the laptop must also be used as a tablet.

Thanks to the integration of forty magnets, the laptop can be placed in several corners, for example, the keyboard can no longer be used, but the touchpad can. Users can also fold the screen down and use it as a tablet, claims HP .

There are three screen variants, all with a diagonal of 13.3 “, a full-HD screen with up to 300 nits, a low-power screen with the same resolution that requires only 1W of power and 400 nits of brightness and a 4k option, which will be released later this year, HP supplies a stylus with tilt detection and there are 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

The keyboard is illuminated and there are four speakers that HP has developed in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen. The thickness of the 2-in-1 device is 15mm and the weight is 1.45 kilograms.

Variants come with an Intel Core i5-8200Y and a Core i7-8500Y, in addition to a Core i5 version with 4g support. These processors of the new Amber Lake generation are passively cooled. The manufacturer claims to have designed a very small motherboard for the model. The laptop has a maximum of 8GB lpddr3-sdram memory and a pci-e nvme ssd of up to 256GB.

The Specter Folio has three USB-c ports, two of which support Thunderbolt 3. There is also a USB port and 3.5 mm jack. The Core i5 variants have a battery of unknown capacity that should last for 19 hours, the Core i7 comes to 17 hours, HP says. The code name that HP used internally in its development was Godzilla.

The lte and wifi versions of the HP Specter Folio will be available in the Netherlands in January 2019, for suggested retail prices of 1799 and 1599 euros respectively.
