HTC is likely to release ‘blockchain smartphone’

Exodus 1 in December
HTC has announced that the previously announced blockchain smartphone can now be pre-ordered and expected to be delivered in December. The phone can only be purchased with cryptocurrency.

In order to get the Exodus 1 in possession, a preorder can be placed from now on, whereby only bitcoin or ethereum can be paid. This concerns 0.15 bitcoin or 4.78 ethereum, which translates to approximately 830 euros. For this, orderers get a smartphone that uses blockchain technology in which a separate, closed software environment is created that is separated from the Android O operating system. In this ‘safe enclave’ the cryptocurrency keys and for example personal data are stored.

If the phone is stolen or can no longer be repaired, there is functionality called ‘social key recovery’ to quickly and easily get keys or data back. The user can choose three to five friends who can help. They then have to download an app after which an algorithm splits the key between them. In fact it is still a beta product; HTC will soon release APIs so that developers can use the blockchain phone to sign transactions, for example, and secure keys.

The Exodus 1 features a Snapdragon 845-soc and a 6 “screen with an 18: 9 ratio, the phone also has 6GB of memory and 128GB of storage onboard, and on the back two cameras, the primary of which is a resolution of 16 megapixels. and the secondary one is a 12-megapixel copy.On the front are also two cameras, but each with a resolution of 8 megapixel.Video can be recorded in 4k resolution and with 60 images per second. The battery is a 3500mAh-copy .
