Huawei and Leica work together on camera technology for smartphones

Huawei and Leica entered into a partnership in the field of camera technology for smartphones. The Chinese company and the German manufacturer to cooperate in the long term, including in the field of research and design.

The two companies are talking about a strategic partnership and alliance for long-term, but concrete details about them do not know yet the plans. However, it needs to establish a research & development, design, engineering, user experience, marketing and distribution go.

“The cooperation with Huawei Leica offers a chance to introduce its expertise in optics in a new product segment,” reports Leica CEO Oliver Kaltner. For Huawei, it is an opportunity to differentiate themselves with the camera capabilities of its devices, a part where it has yet to let competitors.

Leica already worked together on smartphones, with Panasonic. The result of this collaboration was in 2014, the DMC-CM1 , a camera smartphone that runs Android and a 1 “sensor to include a resolution of 20 megapixels.
