Find a Question:
IDC made a mistake when calculating percentage iPad
Data from the experts from the industry analyst firm IDC ranks among the most reliable in the industry. Each quarter, they track the shipments of smart phones, tablets and other electronic devices all over the world, and then calculate the percentage of each manufacturer. In the future, this information operate many publications and so-called experts, who at the slightest reduction indicators frantically scribbling texts about the imminent decline of a company.
Until recently, estimates IDC does not need to be checked – most experts believe just their word, not even allowing the thought that one of the manufacturers want to artificially increase its market share. However, last week, analysts have made adjustments to the already published data, and not for any period this year, and for the third quarter of 2012.
Initially, the IDC report for Q3 2012 reported that Apple’s share of the global tablet market was 50.4% versus 18.4% for Samsung and 12.2% for “other” manufacturers. Under “other” experts imply tablets from lesser-known companies that are for their work mainly use the operating system Android . Information appears quite plausible: Apple actually sold 14 million iPad in the third quarter of last year – it can be verified by examining its financial report for the period.

However, a new report by IDC for the third quarter of 2013 the percentages over the last year has changed beyond recognition. Analysts somehow “found” more than 10 million tablets, which are taken to the “other” category, which is why the number of deliveries has increased sharply from 3.3 million units to 13.5 million tablets. Interesting “error”, is not it?
But that’s not all. The number of tablets shipped Samsung suddenly changed from 5.1 million to 4.3 million. Get and gadgets from the company Asus – the number decreased to 100,000.
What do we get in the end? Because mysteriously appeared 10 million of “other” tablets Apple’s share fell to 40,2%, Samsung – from 18.4% to 12.4%, affected and other manufacturers. But the share of “other” increased from 12.2% to as much as 38.8%. It’s not even funny.

Research, which has nothing to do with reality
Frankly, after such news did not even want to examine data on deliveries tablets in the third quarter of this year (which you can also find in the tables above). It is worth noting that most of the indicators in the new table are estimates, with the exception of Apple, which really sold 14.1 million iPad in the last quarter.
All this once again proves that you should not rely on statistical data to determine the current status of the corporation. The best criterion was and remains a stir among customers and their satisfaction with the new devices. And the conclusions of numerical indicators, often have nothing to do with reality.Viewing:-234
