Ikea has started selling smart sockets in the Netherlands

Ikea has placed the smart plugs of its Trådfri series on various shelves in the Netherlands. A set with remote control costs 19.95 euros, a loose smart plug for 9.95 euros for sale.

At at least the IKEA offices in Amersfoort, Delft, Haarlem, Heerlen and Zwolle there are shelves for the Trådfri plugs, according to the Trådfri topic on Gathering of Tweakers . In some locations the stock was sold out quickly, according to the reports. In the Duiven branch a tweaker was told that the sale would start mid October.

The arrival of the smart sockets was announced early last month, with a German site calling it an introduction in April. For the Netherlands, the release is therefore considerably earlier. It concerns two products: one with only the socket for 9.95 euros and one with that socket and a remote control. The plug for a wall socket works via Zigbee and is intended for switching lights via the remote and the Trådfri app.

This remote control works up to ten meters and can be connected with up to ten power sockets. The supplied batteries can provide the remote control with power for about two years. On the Ikea website, the plugs are not yet available at the time of writing.
