Improved telecommunications data – Development iteration # 83
Our developers have development iteration 83 completed. This sprint is working on a new telecomvergelijker and the HTML5 video player from StreamOne prepared for production. His preparations for the switch to https and http / 2.
New StreamOne video player
In the previous development-.plan we brought the good news about the public beta test of our new video player, developed by our partner StreamOne video. The new player always plays videos in HTML5 instead of the widely detested Flash. In most cases, this leads to much higher performance: faster load times, smoother picture and therefore a better viewing experience. At we have improved the video player based on your feedback, so that he is now ready to be used by the general public. We include ensuring a better share icon, the sort of qualities reversed so that it is now high to low, and improved the quality of the images hold. Furthermore, we have the servers given an upgrade so that the streaming video at high resolutions is better now. As of now, videos are shown by default in the new player.
In the past few sprints we are backstage been busy improving the telecomvergelijker in Pricewatch. The telecomvergelijker you can compare sim-only subscriptions and telephone subscriptions. The large amount of subscriptions and make the diverse actions of the telecom providers that it is not easy for a consumer to make a clear product and price comparison. Last year we have therefore sim-only verglijker already substantially overhauled. In recent months, we have focused on improving the comparison of unit subscription combinations.
In addition to various small improvements in the user experience, we have mainly focused on improving the data and the presentation thereof. To celebrate we have helped our new telecomvergelijker the air, we raffle a Sony Xperia Z5 among our visitors. Knowing more? Read the .actie .
Https / http / 2
Our developers a number of iterations already working on preparations to make the switch to serving pages via https. For our users with a better protection of their privacy, that the information you exchange with Tweakers no longer need to worry in plaintext crossing between our servers and your device. To reduce the impact of a secure connection on performance, we want to combine the transition to https with an upgrade to http / 2. One of the advantages of http / 2 is the support of multi-plexing with which the requests may be combined over a single connection. The protocol prevents a lot of overhead that TCP / IP and https normally entail and therefore performs comparable or better than http 1.1 without encryption.
In iteration # 83 is a number made necessary preparations. One practical problem with the use of https is that pages may contain images are served via SSL which are served through an unsecured connection. This results in otherwise tedious mixed content warnings from the browser. In iteration # 83 we have ensured that there is linked required to https images in editorials. For user generated content such as forum posts, we put a camouflage proxy to images from unprotected sources still be able to serve via https.
In the next iteration, we will continue to work on the https project to ultimately work towards a release.
Test Panel Display in reviews
In January we have made it possible to enroll in the Tweakers Test Panel . As a member of the test panel may get a chance to test the latest products from manufacturers. Test Panel Reviews are independent reviews by users, but initiated by the manufacturer. We have ensured that reviews that are written from a test panel, now can be identified by a label next to the name of the author of the review.
