In the treatment of neurological problems help stem cells

A study conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA) successfully proved the possibility of the use of human stem cells as a means for curing neurological problems. The experiment was carried out in mice revealed that the implanted into the brain stem cells able to form two important types of neurons that are involved in the formation of various types of human behavior, such as emotion, learning, memory dependent to anything, and so on.

Su-Chan Zyan, professor of neuroscience and neurology at the University of Wisconsin and the head of the research works on issues related to stem cells, has been for the last 15 years and is considered one of the pioneers of this research. The experiment using special chemicals, the researchers used nurtured in vitro stem cells are human embolic system, they were able to develop into neural cells.

The researchers specifically damaged department of laboratory mice hippocampus, which is involved in memory consolidation (when the memory of the short-term changes in the long term, that is, learning takes place). But after implantation into the damaged area mouse neural stem cells showed much better results in tests of the labyrinth, which meant the use of memory and learning. Scientists were surprised by just received results.

“Reconstruction of the brain at the expense of stem cells for scientists is a huge field for a variety of discoveries,” – says Zyan.

“In the future, they can even be used in the treatment of syndromes Alzheimer’s , Down’s syndrome, schizophrenia, epilepsy, depression, and various relationships. ”

However Zyan indicates that currently the science is difficult to determine which part of the brain does not work properly in many mental disorders, so the need for new and more effective research in these areas.
