Researchers at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory have developed a method whereby a layer graphene through a vapor deposition on a polymer layer. They covered therewith a surface area of ​​approximately five by five centimeters.

One of the researchers, Ivan Vlassiouk, says the site of the laboratory that similar properties of graphene were already shown on a micro scale, but never before on a larger scale.

The major difference with other methods in order to make graphene is located in the vapor deposition on a substrate of polymer. Many other methods of using small flakes of graphene which are difficult to evenly disperse into the polymer.

Like many other experiments to produce graphene in large quantities, the next question is how to scale it up so that it is economically viable to produce the material.
