The first systems with Intel Xeon Phi accelerator Knights Landing are sent to customers. Thus the manufacturer has promised to make the first systems available in the first quarter, not achieved.

With the introduction of the new Xeon Phi accelerators it is possible to boot from the cpu, memory is integrated on the CPU for additional performance and it is possible to create a complete cluster with only Xeon Phi no other Xeon systems.

The Knights Landing Xeon Phi card has been tested since late last year by various partners, including Cray. The new Xeon Phi card is produced in 14nm and contains up to 72 cores and features 16GB of multi-channel dram which a transfer rate of 400GB / s must be achieved. Knights Landing provides further support for 36 PCI-E 3.0 lanes and the Omni-Path architecture.

Omni-Path is part of Intel’s Scalable System Framework for High Performance Computing. Intel now says that the accelerator include is suitable for applications in the field of artificial intelligence. This emphasis seems to be inspired by Google, that his own artificial intelligence project on hardware begun is.
