A growing number of classrooms in schools around the world are switching to digital technology. In place of traditional textbooks come with an interactive e-book content. Intel has announced two new Android-based tablet on the Atom processor for use in schools.

The smaller and presumably cheaper version of the Slate is equipped with Atom Z2420 processor with a clock frequency of 1.2 Hz, a memory of 1 GB and a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Also, there is 8GB of internal memory, built-in speaker, microphone and camera in the amount of two pieces. According to the manufacturer, the battery charge is enough for 8 hours of battery life. The certificate indicates the IP41 water resistance and protection against damage, which is especially important for school tablets.


A larger version of the Intel Education Tablet is powered by Atom Z2460 processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz, using 1 GB of RAM and a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The battery holds a charge of only 6.5 hours, but twice as much memory than the previous model. In place of a front and rear camera, speaker, microphone and stylus. The device is again protected by standard IP41.

It is evident that a series of tablets Intel Education is not going to compete with other devices in the benchmarks. Their purpose is to be useful in their studies. For this reason, the device accompanied by special software and different accessories, including a temperature sensor and a magnifying glass, which is attached to one of the chambers the plate.


Unfortunately, Intel did not report information regarding pricing and timing of tablets on the market. Most likely, the device will be available only to schools directly, bypassing retailers.
