Intel is criticized for Core i9-9900K test

t that harms AMD processors – update
Intel is criticized on the internet for paid testing with performance claims about the new Core i9-9900K. The tests used settings that ensure that AMD’s processors perform worse. Intel remains behind the test.

Intel used Principled Technologies for benchmarks of the Core i9-9900K and, among other things, PcGamesN took over the results for an article entitled ‘Intel’s Core i9 9900K is up to 50% faster than AMD’s Ryzen 7 2700X in games’. Hardware Unboxed took a close look at the way it was tested and discovered that the test method was greatly disadvantageous to AMD. The YouTube publication calls the claims ‘misleading’.

Principled Technologies did not switch an XMP memory profile on the AMD systems, which has a negative effect on the performance of the Ryzen chips. With the Intel systems, XMP was enabled and the memory settings were adjusted manually. In addition, Hardware Unboxed complains that it is only tested at 1080p and that Game Mode is similar to both the Ryzen and Threadripper systems, while at Ryzen this leads to poorer performance because it disables half of the cores.

In the paid test, the Intel Core i7-8700K scored 29 percent higher than the Ryzen 7 2700X in the Ashes of the Singularity test. At Hardware Unboxed, the difference was only 4 percent and 9 percent with higher memory speeds. In other games, the performance differences between the Intel and AMD processors were much smaller than with the Principled Technologies tests. It is waiting for independent reviews of the Core i9 9900K, but the chances are very small that the performance difference compared to the much cheaper Ryzen 7 2700X comes in the direction of 50 percent.

PcgamesN has now adjusted his article with the message that the results are being questioned. Despite the criticism, Intel remains behind the results, according to the response the company gave to Tom’s Hardware: “The data is consistent with what we have seen in our lab and we look forward to the results of third parties in the coming weeks. ”

Update, 11.55 : Reaction Intel added and approach adjusted accordingly.
