Intel will release Optane 905P as m2-ssd for consumers

Intel comes with m2-modules of its Optane 905P-ssd for consumers, in addition to the pci-e-cards and u2-variants. The Optane 905P with m2 form factor has a storage capacity of 380GB.

According to Gegory Bryant , the vice president of Intels Client Computing Group, four Optane 905P ssds in raid can provide 1.5 TB of storage. Intel showed pci-e cards from Gigabyte and ASRock that make this possible. Whether there are models with more or less than 380GB is not clear and the price is still unknown.

Intel announced the Optane 905P a month ago, without giving much publicity. The 905P line is the successor of the 900P and currently consists of a PCI-e-card of 960GB and a u2-model of 480GB. Rumors about the arrival of the m2 variant were already there at the end of April. The 905P line appeared relatively quickly after the 900P line: it announced Intel in October last year.

The drives are based on Intel’s 3D Xpoint memory. This is phase cache memory, which is not so much distinguished by its sequential read and write speed, but especially with its low latency, good performance in the area of random 4k i / o’s and its endurance.
