Intel Xeon Phi co-processors of the second generation: the future of high technology

During the event, ISC 2013, Intel boasted that the most powerful supercomputer in the world Tianhe-2 or Milky Way 2, about which we wrote here , uses exactly the processors. For those who have forgotten, we recall that at the heart of Tianhe-2 is 32,000 Intel Xeon processors and coprocessors 48000 Xeon Phi. In this processor giant has not stopped and introduced co-processors Xeon Phi second generation, and expanded range of processors Xeon Phi current generation of five new models.

Xeon Phi co-processors of the second generation, codenamed Knights Landing, will be released in two versions: as co-processors and as processors. They are designed to produce at rates 14-nm processor technology with the use of 3D-Tri-Gate transistors of the second generation.

The main feature of the second generation Xeon Phi become a universal memory, which will be integrated into the processor or coprocessor. This will increase the bandwidth of your system, linking the processor and RAM.

Five new models of the current generation of Xeon Phi target different price segments.

For a family of models Xeon Phi 7100, aimed at the upper segment is characterized by the presence of 61 core (1.23 GHz), 16 GB of memory and performance of 1.2 teraflops (for double-precision operations).

Models in the Xeon Phi 3100 is the best solution in the industry in performance and price ratio. They have up to 57 cores running at a frequency of 1.1 GHz, and the performance index is 1 teraflops.

Model Intel Xeon Phi 5120D, filled up the family of Intel Xeon Phi 5100, is optimized for systems with a high density layout (blade servers).
