“Internetting elderly in the Netherlands are increasingly on Facebook ‘
Older people who are online regularly, are increasingly using Facebook. This is clear from a survey of about 10,000 Dutch by marketing research Newcom. The number of people over 65 who use Twitter, is still rising.
The number of respondents between 65 and 79 years who are going to use Facebook in the past year, increased by 23 percent compared to 2014. The number of people aged over 80 on Facebook rose 10 percent. Hence the use of Facebook in the elderly is still growing considerably. There was furthermore according Newcom 29 percent 65-79 year olds at Twitter.
Increased over the group of respondents is the use of Facebook. As the number of daily users of Facebook grew 8 percent from 2014, which extrapolated to all Dutch leads to 6.6 million. Based on the survey estimates the number of daily Newcom Google+ users exceeds the number of YouTube users.
Across the board loses Twitter popularity among the respondents. The number of daily users declined from 11.4 percent to 7.6 percent, which Twitter since the previous survey would have lost a third of its users. Newcom the survey of just over 10,000 respondents, who could register themselves.
