InXile releases PC version The Bard’s Tale IV on September 18th

Developer in Xile Entertainment releases the PC version of The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep on September 18th. Later this year the role-playing game will also be released on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, but no publication date is yet known for the console versions.

InXile refers to the date of publication of the PC version in a tweet and also on the Steam page of the game the date is now mentioned. Players who have contributed to the crowdfunding campaign for the game on Kickstarter can now start with a beta version of the game. InXile won more than 1.5 million dollars for making the game.

The first part of The Bard’s Tale appeared in 1985 and that same decade two successors appeared. In 2004 a new The Bard’s Tale game was released, made by Brian Fargo and published by inXile Entertainment. At the time, however, the makers only had the rights to the name and not to the content and the story.

For The Bard’s Tale IV, the makers have all the rights to the series in their hands and the new game is thus seen as a full-fledged fourth part. It is a single player rpg with a first-person perspective, which takes place in a game world based on Scotland. In the game, players control a party of up to six characters and battles are turn-based.

The story of The Bard’s Tale IV is recorded in its entirety and contains thirty hours of music. According to the developer, the game contains about 30 hours of gameplay. InXile has revived more old RPGs in recent years. For example, the developer released Wasteland 2 in 2014, as the successor to the first part of 1988. Meanwhile, Wasteland 3 is also being worked on.
