For the Iranian government, Google is the abode of evil . The country has banned services of this company, and the service is called Google Earth tool of international espionage. The Islamic Republic announced plans to launch its own mapping service .

Minister of Information and Communication Technology of Iran Mohammad Hassan told us this week that his country is developing so-called “Islamic Google Earth», which will be called Basir. Running analog mapping service Google will take place in the coming months, the British newspaper The Guardian, citing the local edition of the semi-official Mehr.

We are ready to launch its service 3D-maps. Now we are working to establish information centers to handle the appropriate amount of information.

We will do everything possible to Islamic Google Earth earned in the next four months, and served as a public portal of the Islamic Republic to provide services on a global scale.

During the service Google Earth, whose work is supposedly to provide services to users are intelligence organizations – quoted by Iranian news agency the words of Mr. Nami.

Iran has always belonged to the western internet services with suspicion. For this reason, in a country is blocking access to several millions of web sites.

Unfortunately, the Minister provided only superficial information about the service with religious overtones, not really explaining the essence of the word “Islam”:

We develop a service with Islamic views that are held by the inhabitants of our country. The site will provide information that will open people’s eyes … The difference between Google Earth and Basir in values.

Experts, however, have expressed serious doubts about the success of the project started. According to one of the IT-consultants in the past who had to deal with Iran, projects of this scale can not be realized in the short term. To achieve the level of Google Earth will require major investment, and some government subsidies are not enough. Costs are estimated in billions of dollars of investment, and it is difficult to fit in with the country in respect of which the sanction.

Iran’s statement should not be seen as a belated April Fool’s joke, says another independent expert.

In the past year, Iranian authorities reported the completion of the initial stages of establishing a national counterpart of the Global Network. A few months earlier , Iran presented a stealth fighter of its own production.
