It’s a hole in the Sun!

Last week, on the surface of the depths of our sun. But do not worry, it’s not the first herald of the apocalypse or a hint of some of the scenarios, the sci-fi end. It’s just a coronal hole. Although this phenomenon may be familiar to many, it is worth noting – this is the largest coronal holes on the Sun , recorded this year.

Photograph was taken by the three extreme ultraviolet filters Observatory dynamics of the Sun NASA (SDO). Coronal hole is caused by a low density of hot plasma in a particular region.

The lower corona of the sun cut through the powerful magnetic field. Some are closed (or “closed”) is very low, creating a beautiful and bright coronal loops that close superheated gases that produce an incredible amount of ultraviolet light radiation that is generated heated to millions of degrees by the plasma (bright area at the top of the image).

However, there are also “open” lines of force that one end of the magnetic flux anchored in the solar photosphere. These lines are slop solar plasma into interplanetary space at high speed, often disturbing the weather in space to the limit. These areas of open field lines, or coronary holes act like a fire hose emitting plasma into space. These areas are responsible for the strong solar wind, which speeds up the movement of the material of the Sun towards the Earth, reaching the atmosphere for 2-3 days.

Through the lens SDO coronal holes appear dark due to the low density of the plasma heated to millions of degrees, which generates ultraviolet radiation. And the tragic picture shows (of course, thanks to the filters SDO), as if the sun does have a hole.

We are currently experiencing a surge in solar activity since the nearest star is going through the “solar maximum” – the peak of the natural 11-year cycle. At the same time, we should expect an increase in the frequency of solar flares and coronary mass ejections, since the magnetic field of the sun is going through stress. Although this solar maximum is less active than expected, it generates powerful flash. Here’s a coronal hole and as a consequence perturbation of the Sun.

Well, if the sun begins to throw out dangerous stuff, we have to go . The only problem is the absence of the engine, but it kind of solved .
