Kaspersky and AVL sign agreement to develop electronic security solutions for cars

There is an increasing number of technical vehicle characteristics, such as remote vehicle inspection, information and communications technology and entertainment information, which use communication channels between vehicles, cloud computing or other electronic infrastructure.

Although data exchange from and to the car offers many new technical opportunities, these channels are rapidly becoming targets of cyber attacks. In light of the growing risks of car penetration and the threat to its safety, privacy and financial values, there is an urgent need for systematic, institutional and technical measures to ensure the protection of all vehicle characteristics.

To meet the challenges of emerging e-security during the next generation of automotive systems development, Kaspersky Lab and AVL will work together to create sophisticated and integrated security technologies through a collaborative and comprehensive partnership approach.

The agreement was signed by Dr. George Schwab, General Manager of AVL and Alex Moisev, Chief Sales Officer, Kaspersky Lab. The agreement includes the joint development of a software solution that ensures secure, non-penetrating communication between the vehicle’s components and its connected external infrastructure . As well as a bridge to bridge the gap between the integrated vehicle development mechanism and best practices and techniques of electronic security.

The agreement also includes the integration of all security products with high-level vehicle components, and the promotion of comprehensive security solutions for the automotive manufacturing sector. And establish an integrated portfolio of training and guidance programs for automotive security. One of the key objectives is to create a reliable and flexible software platform that enables automakers to develop and integrate the Secure Communication Unit (the “Car Gateway”) into their vehicles using additional hardware and software components that comply with their manufacturing plans. Once completed, the proven Secure Communication Unit solution will be tested through security-based authentication and authentication methods.
