Kaspersky Lab: 68% Of Users In The UAE Place Passwords For Their Smartphones

Although individuals are attached to and attracted to their digital devices, they are at risk of misconduct and dangerous behavior that is detrimental to security.

A new study by Kaspersky Lab reveals a discrepancy in how individuals deal with their data, although they recognize the potential risks of cybercriminals, but their behavior suggests that they can not protect their data correctly.

The survey shows that the vast majority of people are aware that there are security threats to their information, and 77% of respondents in the UAE acknowledged that cybercriminals and pirates constitute a significant and significant threat to their data, and 68% said that malware is a high risk threat. However, there is a difference between individuals’ concerns about the safety of their data and the actions taken by them to protect the most precious data on their hearts.

It is worrying that only about half of the respondents protect their devices using passwords, 68% of them putting passwords on smartphones, 46% on tablets and 52% on computers. Worse, 3% of individuals do nothing to protect their data at all (22% for tablets, 10% for computers and 6% for smartphones). Although the risks posed by Internet criminals and malware are seen by many as significant risks to their data, only about 10 percent have a general security solution installed on their computers.

Moreover, there is a gap between the user’s awareness and how he handles the device negligently, which makes the data vulnerable. 56% of respondents in the UAE recognize that their negligence may jeopardize the safety of their data. However, when asked how they lost their data in the past, users reported that they themselves actually deleted it at one in five cases . This situation follows in terms of order cases of individuals being exposed to loss of data due to damage of the device, which is 21%.

When it comes to people’s favorite data, many people see images and videos stored on digital devices as one of the most important and valuable forms of data compared to others. However, the latter are the most vulnerable to loss of smart phones, according to the views of the sample surveyed, with 62% of those admitted that they have already been exposed to those cases in the past, while 34% of users of computers and 27% of tablet users exposed For the same thing.

“The precious data we store on our digital devices used by us every day is not properly protected,” said Andrei Mocola, president of consumer business at Kaspersky Lab. In addition to the great confidence we place in our devices to protect our digital information, it is important that individuals’ security procedures are scalable to serve as a firewall that can protect them, regardless of the type of device or environment in which they are used. Reliance on multiple data storage devices that are most important to individuals requires users to adopt a secure and secure security approach. Only then will it be possible to address security vulnerabilities and fill in the lack of user knowledge and respond to any unintended security concerns. ”

To help protect valuable data on their devices, users can follow a number of easy and simplified precautions, as backing up data to the cloud makes it easy to retrieve and use from anywhere, at any time, if it disappears from the device. Encryption of vital information and passwords designed to protect devices and applications will make data access more difficult when the device falls into the hands of the abuser. Thus, password generators can create and store both secure and non-recurring passwords.

Users should also activate VPN connections to protect their data if they are connected through public Wi-Fi connections. For greater peace of mind, if you lose or steal your device, you can also remotely remove vital data using remote device controls. Kaspersky Total Security helps users implement these and many other procedures to provide comprehensive protection and data integrity.
