KDE Plasma Announces Mobile-gui for smartphones




KDE Plasma Mobile has announced a software library for use on smartphones. It is a mobile version of the Plasma Active interface already several tablets can run. For the time being it is a prototype.

To demonstrate its new interface for smartphones KDE has released a video where all the functionality of the software is shown. Plasma Mobile is currently only released as prototype and according to its creators can be used by developers to deal with user interfaces for smart phones. It is also part of Plasma Phone OS, a fully functional mobile operating system which, among other applications written in Qt can run.

Because it is still going to be an early version of the mobile software is not yet clear what smart phones, there will eventually be supported. It is likely that especially Ubuntu smartphones will be compatible with Plasma Mobile. Of these, incidentally, still few.

KDE released its graphical environment for tablets several years ago. However, there are still very few devices where the Plasma software can be installed on. It mainly involves relatively unknown tablet based on the MeeGo operating system.
