Khronos enables first release graphics api Vulkan out

Khronos has indicated that it will not meet the planned release date of the first final version of Vulkan. The specification is completed, but must still undergo a review round. Interested parties should therefore still waiting for the release of the SDK.

On his website indicates Khronos that version 1.0 of Vulkan not come out before the end of the year as initially planned. Although the API is more or less ready, the legal department has yet to give approval, and there is still one thing and done another on “polishing”. When the new release date is planned has not been disclosed, but it need not be very long as Khronos.

Khronos further still working on the SDK for Vulkan. There are versions for Windows, Android and Linux on the schedule and according to the developer, they are almost finished. Again, there is still no definite release date released, but it is likely that the SDKs available as Vulkan 1.0 is released.

Vulkan has long been available as an open beta and provides low-level access to the GPU. The API must follow OpenGL and was therefore known for some time under the name glNext. Several companies have already committed to will make use of Vulkan, including Google. The latter has now joined the management and contributes to the development.
