with claimed range of 485 kilometers

Kia presented the e-Niro at the Paris Motor Show. This electric car comes, for example, in a version with a 64kWh battery, which should provide a range of 485 kilometers. Drivers staying within the city should reach a range of up to 615km.

The Kia e-Niro comes in two versions, one with a battery with a capacity of 64kWh and one with a 39.2kWh battery. Both are lithium-ion polymer batteries. The latter version has a specified range of 312km. This cheaper version has a capacity of 136hp, gets 155km / h and does 9.8 seconds on the sprint from 0 to 100km / h. The more expensive version has a power of 204 hp, reaches 167km / h and is two seconds faster from standstill on the 100km / h.

According to Kia, the 64kWh battery can be charged to a 60 percent level in a 100kW fast charger in 23 minutes. That would amount to 280km according to the applied WLTP standard. The car is equipped with regenerative brakes, which use the kinetic energy during deceleration to recharge the battery. The electric motors are transmissionless, but the e-Niro is equipped with flippers behind the wheel, which the rider can choose from programs of three levels to recover energy.

The Kia e-Niro has been in production at the South Korea plant since the second quarter of this year, which will start selling in Europe at the end of this year. The manufacturer reports that the prices for the two versions of the electric car will soon be announced. Van de Niro has been running a hybrid version since 2016, which was later supplemented with a plug-in hybrid.

Probably Kia wants to compete with the e-Niro with the Hyundai Kona Elektric ; this car has largely similar operating radius and also comes in two variants with a 64kWh and a 39kWh battery. Both cars are from the same parent company and are built on the same platform. The Kona Electric costs around 40,000 euros.
