KPN is working on delivering IPTV without a set-top box is needed there. The service will use the CI + 1.4 standard and works only with a limited number of smart TVs. Next year should be a test.
KPN works for the service along with the manufacturer of CAM modules SMiT, so made a product manager of the latter company , according Broadbandtvnews during the RIP IPTV Seminar in The Hague known. In 2015, there must be a working prototype of a smart card that can handle an IPTV signal directly. KPN and SMiT will use the CI + 1.4 standard, the Digital Video Broadcasting-organization in 2011 approved . The standard also allows the simultaneous decoding of two video streams for recording and playback of two separate channels simultaneously.
SMiT announced in September to bypass all a set-top box with IP support for the transport stream interface of the CI + 1.4 specification. Earlier CI + standards did not support this yet. The new standard regulates the decryption and routing across the internet protocol to a network interface. The further development of IPTV and the increased capacities of television sets connected to the Internet could be set-top boxes in the future superfluous.
When KPN will finally roll out the service is not known. The rollout of CI + 1.4 smart cards is not expected until the second half of 2015. Televisions must also support this standard.Viewing:-166
