KPN has announced that it will take its 3g network offline in January 2022. Phones that do not have 4G support will then fall back to 2g. KPN keeps its 2g network up and running.

The company announces the termination of the 3G network on its website . KPN indicates that the company disables its 3g masts to release more frequencies for 4g. This would make the network faster, safer and more stable according to the company.

Users who have a phone without 4G support must revert to the 2G network from January 2022 onwards. Mobile internet is no longer possible, although it is still possible to call and text via 2g. KPN uses this network for iot applications, among other things.

KPN is not the first company to announce the end of 3G support. Vodafone indicated at the end of last year that the company will switch off its 3G network in January 2020. Tele2 has this year reduced the download speed to 3Mbit / s via 3g.
