LCD rear in the US approved for use on the road
General Motors is the Cadillac CT6 and rest of the car with an LCD rear view mirror. US Secretary of Transportation has authorized the use of technology in traffic.
The relevant mirror is both an ordinary mirror as an LCD and the driver can choose which option he wants to use. In the digital display shows the LCD what is behind the car is done thanks to a camera which is mounted on the back of the roof. Anthony Foxx, US Secretary of Transportation, said in an interview with National Public Radio know that permission has been given for the use of the mirror. Permission would be given because the mirror despite his position as LCD still can be a normal mirror.
LCD mirror developed by Gentex. The company calls the rearview mirror a Full Display Mirror. Gentex claims that the camera has a three to four times wider picture may show the normal mirror. The mirror has a resolution of 1280×240 pixels and has a pixel density of 171 ppi.
Gentex has since 2014 engaged in the development of the LCD mirror. For use in cars, the permission of the ministry of transport was needed. The company sold an Rear Blind Zone Assist module, thus being in a small LCD which is integrated into a regular mirror, shows the blind spot.
The mirror is currently only available as an option in the Cadillac CT6. Enhanced Vision and Comfort package costs 2025 dollars and converted next to the mirror also includes a special sunroof, ventilation for the front passenger and rear heated seats.
