Lenovo places tablets in dock to act as smart screens

with speakers
Lenovo has introduced two tablets, namely the Smart Tab M10 and the Smart Tab P10. These are regular tablets that can be placed in a matching dock, after which they serve as a smart box with speaker. Without a dock, these tablets are already available in the Netherlands.

Lenovo says it considers the Smart Tab tablets as a new category of 2-in-1 tablets. These are not tablets that can also serve as a laptop, but tablets that ‘transform’ into a docking station after placement in a smart display. The tablets have a built-in support for Amazons voice assistant Alexa.

Both tablets come with the corresponding dock, called the Lenovo Smart Dock. It contains a speaker and three far-field microphones, so that any voice commands are picked up from all over the room. This enables users to request weather information, traffic reports or appointments on the personal agenda, for example. The dock supports Bluetooth, so that it can function as a wireless speaker without one of the Smart Tablets.

Both tablets have a 10.1 “screen, have an ips panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 as soc on board, and both models have USB-c connections, a 3.5 mm jack and they are equipped with pogo-pin, so that a connection to the dock can be made. Both the P10 and the M10 have Dolby Atmos speakers and support bluetooth 4.2 and 802.11ac-wifi.

However, there are also the necessary differences between the two tablets. The brightness of the screen of the P10 goes up to 400cd / m² and the tablet has a maximum of 4GB of ram and up to 64GB of storage space, while the cheaper M10 reaches a brightness of 320cd / m², a maximum of 3GB of ram offers no more than 32GB of storage space . The P10 also has a battery that lasts longer; it has a capacity of 7000mAh, while the M10 has a 4850mAh battery. Furthermore, the P10 has both a front and a back camera with a slightly higher resolution and only this tablet has a fingerprint scanner.

The Lenovo P10 and M10 are already available in the Netherlands as tablets, but that is still without smart home integration. A Lenovo spokesperson said that the required dock is not yet available in the Benelux for the time being, in contrast to, for example, the US and larger European countries. In the US the Smart Tab P10 including dock comes out for $ 300, and the Smart Tab M10 costs $ 200 including dock. When and if the dock comes out in the Netherlands and Belgium, is still unknown.
