LG claims that the manufacturer is involved in making modules for its smartphone G5. That is on the developer website of the Friends modules. Developers therefore should not only LG convince their idea, but also collaborate with employees of the manufacturer.

LG wants developers of modules for the G5 smartphone to sign contracts, and they have a ‘fair’ share of the profit gain , on the developer site. The manufacturer is an ideas competition held this month, after which developers need to work with the manufacturer to turn the idea into a product.

According to LG is needed because modules greatly affect the performance and the design of the G5. It is unknown how many developers want to develop modules for the smartphone. Until now, the manufacturer has two show: a camera grip and an audio module in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen.

For snapping modules LG uses its own port named Port Apps 1.0, which is 28 pins. Modules should reflect that. Apps Port operates on USB 2.0, which LG provides many of the features.

Modules can also work wirelessly, with Bluetooth, wifi or 4g. The manufacturer shall keep the exact effect of the modular design secret and only gives developers who have signed a contract with LG access to all data.

The G5 has a design in which users can replace the bottom of the unit for another module. That bottom is also set removable battery. LG presented the G5 late February. The unit is on the verge of hatching in the Benelux.
