South Korea’s largest chemical company, LG Chemical, a member of the financial and industrial group LG Group, has developed a new OLED panel that is as effective as traditional LED-lamps , available on the market today.

According to the publication CNET, the new OLED-panel LG to hit the market in November. Their light output is 100 lumens per watt, and the life of – 40 000 hours. The first figure indicates the number of visible light generates a source of energy.

For comparison, the current fluorescent lamps give out 100 lumens per watt and work up to 20 000 hours. The indicators LED panels, in turn, may be up to 100 lumens per watt and 50 000 hours. It is worth noting that to date, the efficiency of light panels using OLED technology does not exceed 60 lumens per watt.

Despite the high cost of OLED-panel (they are about 10 times more expensive than their LED-analogues), representatives of LG Chemical is the hope of cheaper technology in the future:

It is very important to bring to the level of performance indicators LED. We believe that the continued development will help us to reduce the unit cost of five times or more.

LG Chemical plans to sell its new light panels in North America and Europe, where such products are commercially viable. The Korean company is already working with more than 50 companies in the field of lighting fixtures, including one of the largest in the United States supplier of lighting equipment Acuity Lighting.

LG Chemical also sees prospects in the sector of automotive lighting where OLED-panels are increasingly being used in the headlights and brake lights.

Previously, the company released a curved OLED-lamp for the smart home.
