LG hint to announcement smartphone with gesture control

LG has placed a teaser online that seems to indicate that the manufacturer wants to present a smartphone with gestural control. The presentation is scheduled for about a month, just before the start of telecoms fair Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The presentation will take place around MWC in Barcelona, according to the teaser . The thirteen-second film shows the text ‘Goodbye touch’, while a hand gestures above a surface. LG makes few devices where the touch control can be replaced by gestures. Smartphones are the most obvious, because Mobile World Congress is the fair where LG has announced new phones every year.

It is unknown how that gesture control would work and which functions users could operate. There have already been experiments with the control of parts of smartphone interfaces without contact. Pixel phones and various other smartphones have a pinch function to call an app. Samsung once had a function to let users scroll with eye movements in the browser.

Many manufacturers have already announced that they will hold an event around the telecom fair. Samsung kicks off with its own event the Wednesday before for the Galaxy S10 series . Sunday, February 24, include Xiaomi and Microsoft events, while Sony shows its new smartphones on Monday .
